On 18-June-2006 my wife (see
the right side of the mobile phone picture) and myself conducted a
comparison flight Ka 8B vs. Rhönsperber. The experiment ended
rather quickly after almost 1 h flight time in a corn field just
3.5 miles from the home airfield. The
off-field landing was no problem
at all because I planned it quite a lot time in advance because I did
want to risk a damage to the Rhönsperber. Many thanks to the nice people
that helped during the de-rigging (see the left side of the picture). By
the way: Claudia and the Ka 8B also did not make it back to the
airfield. They made an out-landing just 1,5 miles away from the
runway... Thanks to the quick retrievers of the Ka 8B Claudia got the
trailer to the Rhönsperber early enough before the sun would set.

Géry Guéville put
together this extremely nice and very detailed CAD model of the
Rhönsperber - many thanks!
In the above picture the 3D model "flies" in StrePla -
the flight
planning software for glider pilots - close to its home airport in the
"Taunus" (a low mountain range in Germany).
